The René Cassin Award

As part of its activities to promote dialogue and education with universities and international development cooperation, the Legislative Assembly of the Emilia Romagna Region of Italy launches each year a competition to award three prizes in honour of René Cassin, considered the father of human rights.

The competition is open to recent graduates of second-level university degrees from the Region’s universities with theses related to human rights or human development. It is also open to residents of the Region who have completed such degrees in other universities in Italy or abroad.

The prizes consist of a bursary of Euro 10.000,00 each, to be used as a contribution to a practical work-training internship of 10 months in one of the initiatives promoted by the KIP International School.

The René Cassin award forms part of a collaboration agreement established between the Legislative Assembly and the KIP Universitas Programme and is an opportunity for qualified youth to acquire direct field experience that will contribute to their professional, scientific and cultural development.

For the 2017-2018 edition, the three winners have been inserted in the following activities:

- In Winnipeg, Canada, Clara Csilla Romano will collaborate with the Onashowewin Restorative Circle, a restorative justice organization that aims at realizing alternative conflict resolution processes.

- In Bogotá, Colombia, Lara Mannu will collaborate with the Local Economic Development Agency RED ADELCO.

For the 2016-2017 edition, the three winners have been inserted in the following activities:

- In Rome, Italy, Greta Alessandri has dedicated her period of work-training to collaborating with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
